The Sound is an independently owned website covering arts, culture, news, and events in the greater New Hampshire Seacoast. Our mission is to provide information and inspiration.
The Sound explores what matters to the people who live, work and play in our community. We present arts and entertainment right beside news, current events, and trends, because the Seacoast we know and love is made up of all these parts.
Our coverage encourages participation in both our local government and creative community. We believe an effective democracy, as well as a friendly community, requires reliable, useful information. We make it fun, simple and rewarding to keep up with the news.
Who we are
The Sound is your independent, dependable source for arts, culture, news, and events. We are based in and committed to the Seacoast area. Our priorities are quality and community.
This site is owned and operated by journalists who carry on traditions of ethics, accuracy, and integrity, and uphold the highest standards of quality. We try to do all of that with a sense of humor and spirit of adventure.
Our editorial team has years of shared experience gained from work at local dailies, weeklies, and magazines. We’ve learned from the best and we’ll keep getting better.
Coverage area
Our office is located in downtown Portsmouth and is open to the public during business hours. We cover the cities of Portsmouth, Dover, Somersworth and Rochester, as well as the coastal towns of New Hampshire, and our neighbors in southern Maine and northern Massachusetts. Our coverage area also stretches inland to include much of Rockingham and Strafford counties.
